Located roughly halfway between Ishigaki Island and Taiwan, the underwater ruins are in the sea of Yonaguni, the westernmost island of Japan.

Its true identity is a monolith about 100 meters long, 60 meters wide, and 25 meters high, on the seafloor just 100 meters offshore from the headland of the Shinkawabana breakwater.

Since its discovery in 1986, many divers have dived into the sea to catch a glimpse of this mysterious underwater ruin.

Yonaguni Island is a sacred place for diving. Due to the deep average depth of the water and the fast currents, boat dives are almost always the norm.

To go to popular points on Yonaguni Island, you need to have intermediate or higher skills, but the "Undersea Ruins",Some points are enjoyable for beginners and experience divers.Therefore, even those who are not confident in their skills can enjoy diving.

The semi-submersible sightseeing boats allow visitors to reach the underwater ruins in about 20 minutes by boat, and even those who cannot swim can enjoy the experience without getting wet, which is an attraction that everyone can enjoy.

Snorkeling

Snorkeling is an activity that can be enjoyed more easily than experience diving.

Instead of diving to see them, you can view the entire underwater ruins from the surface. We recommend the plan that comes with a complete set of necessary equipment for rent!

1) Hammerhead sharks

On the dive off Irizaki, the island's westernmost cape,hammerhead shark(red hammerhead shark) with a high probability of encounter.

If the tide is favorable, you may enjoy the sight of the "Hammer River," which flows like a river, passing right in front of you!

(2) marlin

The swordfish, a large, fast-migrating fish with a sword-like long upper jaw "rostrum".

Marlin fishing is also very active on Yonaguni Island, so much so that the "Japan's Westernmost Yonaguni Island International Marlin Fishing Competition" is held every year in July. It would be a very lucky experience if you could encounter a school of big fish!

(1) Dr. Koto Clinic (Shikinajima Clinic)

Yonaguni Island, known as a location for popular TV dramasThe museum is located in the heart of the city. Visitors can tour the set that was actually used as the setting for the drama.

At the clinic, the waiting room and hospitalization room remain exactly as they were during the filming of the drama. Visitors can also take commemorative photos in white coats and enjoy the atmosphere of the drama.

(2) South Ranch

Minami Ranch, made famous by the TV drama "Dr. Koto Clinic," is located in the southern part of Yonaguni Island.

Passing through the Texas Gate (a ditch-like structure), you will find a vast ranching area where horses graze. The horses roam freely, so please exercise caution and enjoy your visit safely.

(iii) Ayamiha Bldg.

The Ayamihabirukan is a sightseeing spot where you can learn about the ecology of the world's largest moth, the Yonaguni Sun, which lives in the Yaeyama Islands.

Inside the museum, you can learn about the relationship between the Yonaguni San and life on the island, as well as other Yonaguni creatures. You will be amazed at the size of the adult specimens!

Higawa Beach is located in the southern part of Yonaguni Island and is a beautiful beach facing Higawa village, the smallest village on the island.

The beach stretches out in the shape of a crescent moon, and the surroundings are tropical, quiet, and peaceful. The shallow waters make it a popular spot for swimming and snorkeling, but care should be taken because of the fast currents.

(5) Standing God Rock

Tategami Iwa, a vertical rock towering over the southeastern coast of Yonaguni Island, is a symbol of the island.

Legend has it that a young man who went to retrieve the eggs of a seabird climbed a rock and was unable to climb down, prayed to God, fell asleep, and when he awoke, he was safely back on earth.

The best place to take pictures is the Tategami Iwa Observatory. This observatory is located about 400 m northeast of Tategami Rock and offers a beautiful view.

Underwater ruins can be seen all year round, but the best time to visit is from December to May.

Since the underwater ruins are located on the south side of the island, a northerly wind is more likely to bring you to the point.

The main subjects of Yonaguni are the terrain and the schools. If you are a camera/video person, you can enjoy shooting more if you have a wide lens!

During the winter months when the water temperature is cooler, a rash guard can be worn under the wetsuit to keep you even warmer and make it easier to put on and take off.
